Aurora Carapinha was a guest at the Belém Book Festival for a discussion on “Portugal Refractário”

On 19 September, the discussion ‘Landscape, Territory, Portugal’ took place, centred on the book Portugal Refractário by António Araújo and Duarte Belo. The discussion brought together one of the authors, António Araújo, and Aurora Carapinha, a researcher at CHAIA, and was moderated by Francisco José Viegas.

The discussion formed part of the programme for the Belém Book Festival 2026, an initiative of the Presidency of the Republic that took place between 17 and 20 September, promoting encounters between authors, readers and different areas of culture. Aurora Carapinha’s participation in this session brought the book Portugal Refractário into dialogue with issues relating to the Portuguese landscape and territory—areas that intersect with her research in landscape architecture. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the many ways of reading and interpreting the Portuguese landscape, drawing on the contributions of research, writing and photography.
