CHAIA researchers take part in the 6th IN2PAST National Meeting between Mafra and Lisbon

Researchers and PhD students from CHAIA took part in the week of activities organised by IN2PAST – the Associated Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Heritage, Arts, Sustainability and Territory – which took place between 14 and 19 September in Mafra and Lisbon.

The programme brought together two of the Associated Laboratory’s main annual initiatives: the 3rd edition of the IN2PAST Doctoral School / In2Future Boot Camp 2026, dedicated to the theme “Heritage(s), ways of using: memories, sustainability and cohesion”, and the 6th IN2PAST National Meeting, bringing together researchers from the seven research units that make up the consortium, including CHAIA.

One of the highlights of the week was the visit to the National Museum of Music in Mafra, which took place on 17 September as a joint field trip for participants of both the Boot Camp and the National Meeting. The activity provided a direct insight into musical heritage and its historical context, encouraging reflection on different ways of interpreting, preserving and promoting heritage. The visit also included a guided tour of the exhibition “Carillons of the Palace of Mafra – Bells as Beacons of Peace”, currently on display at the National Palace of Mafra.

On 18 and 19 September, the 6th IN2PAST National Meeting continued at Colégio Almada Negreiros, part of NOVA FCSH, in Lisbon, featuring plenary sessions, poster presentations, and meetings of the thematic working groups and the Scientific Council. Organised around themes such as sustainability and heritage conservation; communities and shared heritage; interdisciplinary approaches; technologies and the future of heritage; memory, the past and the construction of knowledge; and risk and heritage in adaptation, the meeting strengthened interdisciplinary collaboration between the various research units of the Associated Laboratory.
